Being self-taught my practice has been one of acquiring skills by experimentation.
I began initially working with Computer graphics. I found that using some of the more creative computer programmes I could draw and paint without rules or restrictions.
From drawing and painting on the computer I moved to painting on canvas and paper. And for the past seventeen years have worked in various mediums, using acrylic, aquarelle watercolour, pen and ink, digital photography, etching, collograph. and the Ipad.
I draw my inspiration from observed forms and patterns, portals, standing stones, sky, sea and land. My paintings are largely abstract impressionistic in nature. The use of colour plays an integral part of my work not for naturalistic purposes but to imbue the paintings with energy, mystical and spiritual power so that the viewer becomes involved in a meditational engagement with the painting.
No limitations.
No expectations.

Carol Lawrence’s paintings are largely abstract impressionistic in nature. Although often drawing their inspiration from observed forms and patterns, archways, standing stones, sky, sea and land. The use of colour plays an integral part of her work not for naturalistic purposes but to imbue the paintings with energy, mystical and spiritual power so that the viewer becomes involved in a meditational engagement with the painting. The power and symbolism of simple forms such as the I Ching symbols often add another layer of expression and meaning to the work, sometimes hard edged and bold sometimes dissolving at the edges creating a three dimensional interplay with the background.
Carol Lawrence is a self-taught artist. She works from her studio in Suffolk on the banks of the River Stour Estuary
Carol has also spent many years working in the music business as personal manager to the singer songwriter Donovan.
